Ma-ya is achingly hip: Thai sake mojitos, lychee martinis and a downstairs lounge (available for small parties) decorated with a rotating selection of projects from local artisans. It's a sleek, graphic eatery that attracts musicians, artists and other creative types -- no surprise, since several of its owners are architects. The concept is Thai fusion, typified by such dishes as sauteed spaghetti with squid and shrimp, Thai calamari and fried duck with sweet mango sauce. Traditional dishes like pad thai and pad kra prao (basil and spices with chicken) are also on offer, while vegetarians or those looking for lighter fare may choose avocado with Panang curry, veggie tapas or the Thai salad wrap in a tortilla. The dessert menu is especially intriguing, featuring inventive items like sweet sticky rice with banana, coddled in a banana leaf or fried 'ice creme.'
